From a Prison Cell to KARE 11: The Purpose Behind Crookd Crown
Share
A clothing brand built on perseverance, a book giving incarcerated men a voice, and a journey that continues to redefine royalty.
When Brandon D. Cox began building Crookd Crown Clothier from inside a prison cell, the vision was never simply about selling clothing. It was about creating something meaningful from difficult circumstances, challenging expectations, and proving that your past does not have to define everything you build in your future.
Today, that vision is reaching an entirely new audience.
On October 7, 2026, KARE 11 News featured Brandon D. Cox, Jermaine F. Ferguson, and their book, It Just Works: Real Stories & Behavioral Science From the Earned Living Unit.
The interview highlighted the Earned Living Unit (ELU) at MCF-Stillwater, where incarcerated men are working to create a different kind of environment through accountability, responsibility, personal development, and community.

Crookd Crown: More Than a Clothing Brand
Crookd Crown Clothier was founded on a simple belief: royalty isn't determined by where you come from, but by how you carry yourself, what you overcome, and what you contribute.
Our motto, Redefining Royalty, reflects that philosophy.
What began as an independent streetwear brand has become part of a larger mission involving entrepreneurship, publishing, mentorship, youth empowerment, and community impact.
Through Crookd Crown Publishing, Brandon has written books about entrepreneurship, self-improvement, and personal accountability. His latest project, It Just Works, co-authored with Jermaine F. Ferguson, takes that mission further by sharing the experiences of other incarcerated men.
It Just Works: Stories That Deserve to Be Heard
It Just Works is more than a prison rehabilitation book. It brings together firsthand experiences from men in MCF-Stillwater's Earned Living Unit with behavioral science exploring how environment, community, responsibility, and personal growth influence behavior.
The book challenges readers to look beyond prison walls and consider the human beings doing the difficult work of changing their lives.
For Brandon, the KARE 11 interview represented something much bigger than recognition as an author or entrepreneur.
It was an opportunity to help men who rarely have a public platform share their experiences with the outside world.
As Brandon and Jermaine have emphasized:
"Our names are on the cover. Their stories are why the book matters."
Building a Brand That Gives Back
The mission behind Crookd Crown extends beyond clothing and books.
Through Crookd Crown Publishing, all net proceeds from Brandon's books Hustle Reimagined and The 8 Laws of Hustle are designated for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Net proceeds from It Just Works are divided equally between Boys & Girls Clubs of America and initiatives supporting the Earned Living Unit.
This commitment reflects a central belief behind Crookd Crown: success means more when it creates opportunities for others.
From Redefining Royalty to Redefining Possibility
Being featured on KARE 11 was a humbling milestone, but it was never the final destination.
Crookd Crown Clothier will continue creating statement-making streetwear while supporting the larger mission of entrepreneurship, education, rehabilitation, and giving back.
Because a crown isn't just something you wear.
It's something you earn through the way you live, the responsibility you accept, and the impact you leave behind.
We invite you to watch the KARE 11 interview, learn more about It Just Works, and share this story with someone who believes in growth and second chances.
